Our own pups start our group class at 8 weeks old. Veterinary universities and dog trainers worldwide safely offer positive puppy classes for pups as young as 7 week old. Gentle, effective, positive dog training takes advantage of the fastest learning time in a dog's life, prevents future behavior issues and prevents shyness or aggression caused by lack of socialization with friendly people and safely-screened dogs.
Our open-enrollment system means you can start this week! Jump into beginner levels with an orientation class (one of three different times each week) for PuppyLove of Basic Manners. Have an advanced dog and handler team? You can come by the day or by the month for our small-group sessions or get private help.
Students tell us every day we have great prices! In addition, we offer barter (trade classes foryour skills or items we need) or work study, where you help around our home/property to cover the cost of your classes. Work study can include purchasing things we need (talk to us first, of course, to confirm what and how much concrete mix or gravel we need, for instance). We give you double what you spend in credit toward your class cost just for saving us the trip.
Experienced dog trainers & seasoned dogs may join competition/advanced sessions with friendly dogs when class space permits. Dog owners who have never earned titles in any dog venue usually need some background help or introduction to positive dog training first. Best Paw Forward Inc.'s PuppyLove & Basic Manners series are set up so dogs that have more advanced skills can quickly move into our monthly advanced levels as part of their initial training package.
Gently & Safely Train Nervous or Aggressive Pets Around People & Other Dogs
Gentle, Effective Animal Behavior Techniques
All or partially outdoors under cover to allow maximum space for participants' safety and comfort
Aggression is based on fear. The dog fears the approach of strangers, is nervous around children or other dogs, flees or charges when startled, barks incessantly at the neighbors’ pets or growls when the food bowl is approached.
Punishment increases aggressive reactions in the long run. Even if the dog initially seems quieter after being yelled at, admonished or worse, because he likely thinks warning you was what made you react that way.
Your dog has to learn to trust you to take care of the scary things, to allow you to decide who enters your home and to be polite to other dogs. You can become the senior partner in your relationship; be boss without acting bossy.
A watchdog that barks when a leaf falls 3 blocks away is not very helpful in alerting you when you really need it - you start to tune him out!
Socializing your puppy early can prevent problems with your future dogs - check out our safe PuppyLove program for pups starting ages 8-18 weeks old dogs (our own dogs always start there)
Looking for more personalized training sessions for your dog? We also offer private Detour Doggie Delinquent sessions. Some of those dog & handler teams will likely be at this session for more advanced practice around other dogs in a safe environment.

Gentle methods are the most effective way to help your dog with social issues. Getting them off their home terrains produces faster results since they have no emotional attachment to our spaces.
We do not have to see your dog's rude or fearful displays -- we believe you. We truly know how bad it can get.
It is best if he never feels the need to do that again. You can start the changes now.
For one week or more prior to your first class, or if you find his good behavior slipping for any reason (busy schedule, sabotage from indulgent friends or family, or stressful times) it is helpful to hand feed your dog for doing simple obedience tricks or new fun skills like fetch or roll over.
Dole out a few pieces at a time of high-quality dry or specialty dog food for paying attention to you in a polite way, or for learning or practicing his tricks, throughout the day & evening.
Give him his full ration of food without using the dog food bowl.
If you are limited in time at home due to your work hours or other responsibilities, do this just for the evening meal or whenever works for you.
This also helps a new dog bond to you faster. Dole it out a piece at a time or a handful at a time for doing useful tricks and demonstrating better manners.
After beginner and intermediate levels, go on to our advanced classes for more agility and obedience fun that make with your pet even more entertaining!
